Here I offer a link to a page with the same title on the Fountain Pen Design website where I prepared a transcript of an article in the Scientific American about the Faber company in New York. I assume it is too long to be displayed here.
"Faber has been connected with the manufacture of pencils since 1761. Caspar Faber (the founder of the house) began the manufacture in the little village of Stein, near Nuremberg, Germany. In 1851 the late Mr Eberhard Faber moved to New York and started his new business there."
